I was tempted to go "off record" with my message of appreciation. I lived in Moscow as an embassy kid during the cold war (early 60s) and have done some other traveling since, thus my impression of the effects of living "in proximity to Rome" or "near the center of empire" compared to a perspective of the US with the benefit of a little distance or from territory not allied with the empire. The corrosive effects of propaganda on intellectual functioning were apparent to me from early on as a result, but the failure of people to think for themselves remains a disappointment. Florida, a short drive from the air force base in Tampa is home for me now.
