() : knows that the CIA is in Syria stirring up trouble. You

: Obozo Regime has freed up troops in Iraq (they pretty much
: ate the beans out of that can), they can now be deployed to
: a fresh spot. Mouth-pieces are talking about Iran, but that
: is an intentional diversion, designed to 'jerk the public
: around'. These 'hero's' like to fight wars where it's
: pretty much like taking candy from a baby. With Iran, 'that
: baby's got teeth'.
Skip,
There's no doubt the CIA is assisting rebels in Syria, and special forces are probably on the ground. Lebanon is like Disney World for spies. We've been operating out of it for decades. The problem is Syria has no oil and little strategic significance to us, so I don't see much chance of an escalation. The situation in Syria is like the mob running pre-Castro Cuba. They are a gangster regime and a thorn in our side, but they've done business with all sides. I think we'll dance with the devil we know rather than risk another lesson in unintended consequences.
I think it's too early to dismiss Iran
All those reserves Iran has could just be kids with a grenade strapped to their belts. The last war they fought was against Iraq in the 80's and they used civil war era tactics with not much better firepower. And their air force and navy consists of the best equipment the Shah could buy - in the 70s.
According to Stratfor, our carriers have been transiting the Straight of Hormuz lately like a revolving door. The threat to tanker traffic would be minimal.
Not saying we will do it. We won't. With all the budget cuts planned, we won't be able to invade anyone. It will be all video game type operations from here on out.
But you never know what Israel will do. They're boxed in a corner and fresh out of friends. Now that we may have two liberals running again for president, they can't count on the US either. They may just go for broke.
